When Alice receives two stuffed bears from her grandmothers, she loves them immediately. The only problem is that they do not like each other. Each wants Alice to like him best. Very shortly the two little fellows begin to squabble and Alice becomes more and more distressed .She can not enjoy playing with either because both are jealous and play mean tricks on the other. Finally, Alice has had enough. She takes strict disciplinary action, separating each bear from the other. What she does not know is that each bear has a fear of where he is placed. All works out well in the end with both bears learning lessons about sharing, caring, and encouragement. Hardy's expressive faces on both Alice and the bears energize the entertaining text creating a modern fable from which adults and children can learn valuable lessons. Insets keep readers posted on the actions of Alice and each bear, simultaneously. The size of the book and the gently tinted pages will work well for group reading. The young audience will take pride in the fact that it is a child who finds and implements a solution to the tricky problem of "sibling" rivalry. (28 pages)
